United Methodist Women

United Methodist Women (UMW) is turning faith, hope and love into action on behalf of women, children and youth around the world. UMW provides opportunities and resources to grow spiritually, become more deeply rooted in Christ and put faith into action.

The programs of the Emilie UMW Unit help accomplish ministry in your personal life, your church, your community and the world. The Emilie UMW Unit generally meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM in room 211. All women and teenage girls are invited to attend.

UMW is 150 years old and the focus of this ministry is mission. The Purpose of UMW provides the foundation for the work and witness of UMW as stated below:

United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

The Emilie UMW Unit runs a Thrift Shop which enables anyone to purchase items at a low price. Furthermore, an Emilie pastor can take any person in need into the shop for clothing at no cost. Half of all monies received go to the general fund of the church, with the remaining half supporting UMW.

Members of the Emilie Unit serve the church by helping with Bible School, Lenten lunches, community dinners, and other activities in the church. We serve the community each Christmas when we donate, wrap and give each child at Emilie’s Head Start a gift. We also have a knitting ministry that makes baby blankets for the babies that are baptized at Emilie.

Each year we give a monetary gift and clothing to the East District Day Apart and Ingatherin, which is then given to service centers. This year each church that has a thrift shop will receive items needed for their shops.

Call To Prayer and Self Denial     —Presented by Deborah Circle

The offering taken at this meeting will help renovate, expand and green the buildings that house the critical work of national mission institutions and historically-related international institutions founded by United Methodist Women and the foremothers, some more that 100 years ago. These institutions include community centers, domestic violence and homeless shelters, and children’s homes, schools, colleges and universities. One hundred percent of the offering goes directly to mission.
