EMILIE UMC'S History
The original church was dedicated in 1843 and first housed people of the Presbyterian faith. For the next twenty years, the little congregation struggled to survive in the town once called Centerville. The Civil War, the financial worries, as well as cholera and smallpox epidemics eventually took their tool on the small church. In 1863 the building and land was sold and was renamed Emilie.
Since that time, a lot of love and devotion by its members caused it to continue to flourish and grow. Timely events like World Wars I and II, and then the making of Levittown, affected a tremendous growth period for the church. Young families soon found a home at Emilie. Activities such as scouting, men's and women's clubs, and community projects (ie. the Red Cross), became regular occurrences at Emilie.
Over the years, the church and property continued to expand to what it is today. The top left picture is the Chapel, and now has the Contemporary service every Sunday at 11:00am. Emilie uses both the Chapel and main Sanctuary for many functions. The bottom right picture is the main Sanctuary, and it holds the Traditional Service at 8am, and the Blended Service at 11:00am. every Sunday. We are very blessed to have the space to hold 3 types of worship services. (Traditional, Blended and Contemporary) The bottom left picture is our education wing, and the Emilie Day School for 3 years old through Kindergarten classes are held in the education wing. There are always new projects to continue improving the buildings and grounds and to support our community in many, many ways! Come and find out where you belong at Emilie!
